From the runway – Malafacha presents “Youkali” Spring Summer 2013

Alternative Mexican fashion brand Malafacha recently made a presentation of its 2013 Spring-Summer collection in my hometown, as a benefit for the city’s Integral Family Development program. The creative minds behind Malafacha are designers Francisco Saldaña & Víctor Hernal, who were looking for a representation of “forward thinking Mexican urban fashion” when they created the brand, “the fashion buzzword for young alternative consumers.” Youkali would be their fourteenth collection; urban, androgynous and as they love to be called, different.

Malafacha has enjoyed non-stop success and worldwide recognition since they were named outstanding upcoming designers at the 2006 Fashion Week Mexico. Their work has been featured in high fashion magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Elle, among others.

The show was opened with the exquisite designs of local fashion designer Ale Soria. Her collection for Fall-Winter 2013 was full of unexpected pastels and flower details (which I happened to love ;)). Lots of lace, full skirs, shirts and peplum. Pretty!

As a finishing touch, internationally recognized fashion photographer Iván Aguirre presented some incredible photographs of celebrities like supermodel Elsa Benítez and actor Gael García Bernal.

Periódico Expreso (where I work at) was one of the proud sponsors, so here’s us, making an appearance! It was pretty much a casual evening so I chose a comfy outfit.
