The 2013 MTV VMA’s Best and Worst Dressed

The MTV Video Music Awards are always fun to watch, and always, ALWAYS, controversial, and this year was no exception. At an event where almost everything goes, celebrity fashion choices on and off the red carpet are always super trendy and extra shocking. Some choices steal the spotlight, while others, well, you can’t help but laugh…

Honey by Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs is most definitely in love with spring. His newest fragrance, Honey, which will be launched in July this year, is extremely cute and sunny, with flowers and fruit everywhere.

The bottle definitely resembles Dot, his 2012 fragrance, but it varies this time with bees instead of caterpillars, and yellow and black stripes instead of red and black dots. I can’t help but love it just by looking at how cute it is!

But lets not forget what is most important, the scent. It is vibrant, warm and playful, with top notes of pear, fuit punch, and mandarin, followed by its heart notes of orange blossom, honeysuckle and peach nectar, and finally, honey, vanilla and wood. Honey by Marc Jacobs will be available starting July 2013 as Eau de Parfum in 30, 50 and 100 ml at all fine retail stores.

No more cliché resolutions for 2013

Forget the typical resolutions one makes after each New Year’s Eve kiss. Forget the boring “I will join a gym” or “I will lose weight” or “I’ll quit smoking”.

Don’t get me wrong, those are all positive resolutions, but this year, let’s make things a little different. I just read an email my mom sent me two weeks ago (sorry, mom!) and I wanted to share it with my dear followers. It’s originally in Spanish with a lot of Mexican humor, so I’ll translate it and try to put it in a melting pot so y’all can relate to it.

So, in a nutshell, here are the 10 Commandments for a happy life according to a Mexican grandma:

  1. Be thankful for everything. Don’t complain, thank God you are alive.
  2. When you can eat, eat; when you can sleep, sleep; when you can work, work; and if you are still able to, have a few drinks, play domino, make love, sing in the shower and thank God you’re still healthy. Don’t complain, don’t ask yourself “what if…?”.
  3. If you can’t sleep at night, get up and do something productive: organize a drawer, iron your clothes for tomorrow, read a book, but do something! Because if you don’t, you will just lay there and think a bunch of stupid things, and then you get up and do them, which is worse!
  4. Don’t try to fix all those world problems you hear in the news, you most likely barely understand them. Let those who can do something about them fix them, and take care of the problems YOU can actually do something about and screw everything else. Change starts with you.
  5. If someone gives you something, take it, whatever it is. A smack in the face, a kiss, or anything regardless of how insignificant it is, take it.
  6. But never take anything that is not yours! Someone else’s bicycle, a piece of gum, a handbag, money, husband or lover, respect what does not belong to you. Everyone gets that they deserve.
  7. Whatever you do, do it with happiness and put all your effort in it; do it well or don’t do it at all. Forget nonsense and envies.
  8. Stay away from mean bitches and stupid people. Analyze them, learn their traits and never be like them. Never talk behind someone’s back, be proud but not arrogant, be humble, but don’t let people take advantage of you, be brave, but prudent. Smile when you win and don’t be a sore loser, and when you do lose, cry if you want to.
  9. Don’t worry about things you don’t have and can’t afford. Think about how many wealthy people are unhappy, sick in a hospital, in jail, scared or insecure. You have your family and friends and health. What more could you need?
  10. Screw death! Don’t worry about it; let her worry for not being able to take you with her!

And last but not least:

Here’s to new beginnings…

It’s the last Friday of the year, darling! How exciting is that? Unfortunately for me, I’ll probably spend it cuddling on my couch with a huge warm blanket and a Siamese cat on my lap since I’m still feeling a little bit under the weather, but hey, there’s nothing better than a huge warm blanket and a Siamese cat on your lap when it’s so cold outside (add a delicious cup of Chocolate Abuelita to that picture)!

With 2012 coming to its end, my little hamster has been running inside its wheel and pondering about how much I learned this past year. 2012 was definitely a tough, tough year for me, but on the bright side? I discovered I’m stronger and smarter and that I need more than two hands to count all my blessings.

So what did I learn this year?

  • Never regret anything! If you put all your heart in it and you were 100% sure that you were doing the right thing and you did it true to your beliefs, then go for it!
  • Get rid of the negative people in your life. This year I innocently realized that yes, there is such thing as “bad” people in this world, people who will go out of their way to pretend to be your friend and take advantage of you and people who are so full of envy that will purposely harm you (last one didn’t happen to me directly, thank God!). Yes, I was naive, but I’d rather be known as the kind, generous, happy girl than the bitch who spits poison and treats people like crap.
  • And last but not least, that things DO happen for a reason. I guess you have to experience it yourself to understand that there’s always light at the end of the tunnel, you just have to believe. After a painful year, I realized I have an AMAZING support system, I found a job that I’m excited to go to every day, and a man that makes me smile constantly.

My resolutions? To give myself some space for my personal projects (sorry, readers!), get rid of my debts and actually try to stick to a healthier lifestyle of more yoga and Pilates and water and less diet coke and late nights.

So smile and be happy, there’s no reason not to! ♥
